Deadly Car Accident on I-95 | Law Offices of Brian J. Mongelluzzo

Jul 5, 2022

I-95 in Milford was the site of a deadly crash on the last day of June – and these two tragic fatalities will likely not be the last Connecticut highways see this summer. While this crash is still under investigation, we know there is always a rise in car accidents during the warm weather months. Make sure you use caution on the roads while enjoying yourself this summer because there are several reasons why danger rises with the temperature.

Vacation season is underway which means a significant increase in drivers on the road and often they’re driving for longer distances resulting in more opportunities for accidents to occur. And of course, when people are driving for longer periods of time, it’s more likely fatigue will set in, which can lead to serious crashes.

Young drivers are also on summer break resulting in more inexperienced drivers during both daytime and evening hours. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), drivers aged 16 to 19 are three times more likely to be involved in a fatal car accident than drivers aged 20 and older.

During sweltering summer days your car’s battery, tires, and engine can all suffer. These performance issues can lead to accidents, so it’s important to have your car inspected by a mechanic before heading out on a road trip.

And while we all associate summer with nicer weather, the season is known for severe thunderstorms as well. These storms can cause flooding, power outages, and traffic accidents. In fact, nearly half of all weather-related vehicle fatalities happen during floods, according to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).
