In Enfield, a local contractor is being fined hundreds of dollars for exposing his workers to a dangerous environment according to foxct.com.
Gleason Roofing Co. "deliberately and repeatedly failed to use legally required protection for its employees at two New Britain work sites and exposed workers to potentially fatal falls." the Connecticut Department of Labor said in a press release.
A fine of $294,000 charged by the OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is for four willful and two serious violations of safety standards. Warren Simpson, the area director for OSHA said, "These employees were one slip, trip, or step away from deadly or disabling injuries. Their employer knew this, yet chose to do nothing about it."
It is the employer's responsibility to ensure employees a safe work environment. If they do not comply and an employee is injured, they may be eligible for workers' compensation.
